International CVS Awareness Day – March 5

Since 2015, March 5 has marked International CVS Awareness Day. The purpose of this day is to increase knowledge and recognition of cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) across countries and healthcare systems.

CVS remains under-recognised and is often misunderstood. Increased awareness can contribute to earlier diagnosis, more appropriate treatment, and better support for patients and families.

While many awareness initiatives are led by patients and families, everyone can take part — including healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, policymakers, and the wider public. Improving understanding of CVS is a shared responsibility.

How You Can Contribute

There are several simple and meaningful ways to support International CVS Awareness Day:

Share your experience

Personal stories help build understanding. If you feel comfortable, consider sharing your experience with CVS on social media. Using hashtags such as #LightUpCVSAwareness and #CVSAwareness helps connect posts globally.

Share reliable information

Repost content from CVS organisations and add your own reflections. Sharing evidence-based information helps strengthen recognition of the condition.

Wear blue

Wearing blue, a blue ribbon, or an awareness shirt on March 5 is a visible and simple way to show support and encourage conversations.

Light up in blue

Lighting your home, office, or a local building in blue can help make the day visible in your community.

Distribute information

Printed materials can be shared with general practitioners, emergency departments, schools, and other relevant services. Increased medical awareness is particularly important for improving patient pathways and reducing delays in diagnosis.

Support awareness work

If you wish, you may support ongoing awareness and outreach initiatives through donations. Contributions help strengthen education, advocacy, and collaboration across countries.

International CVS Awareness Day is about increasing understanding, strengthening collaboration, and making CVS more visible in healthcare and society.

CVSA Nordic works to strengthen awareness, knowledge, and support for people living with CVS in the Nordic countries. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, we aim to improve recognition and care for those affected.
